Point Elizabeth Walkway
Access:
Southern end starts from the end of North Beach Road / Domett Esplanade (approx
6km from the town centre) or from the Northern end at Rapahoe, sign posted from State Highway 6
(approx 12km from Greymouth).
Walking Time:
3 Hours return (4km one way).
Features:
An interesting coastal/bush walk with good views and a few sites of historic interest
along the way.
Coronation Domain Walk
Access:
From the Greymouth District Council offices on Tainui Street, turn left onto
Murray Street and then right onto Alexander Street and then left into Kilgour Road.
Walking Time:
5-10 minutes
Features:
An easy walk through native forest, with exotic and indigenous species not normally
found in Greymouth, such as Kauri, Pohutukawa, Celery Pine, Macrocarpa and Sycamore.
Kowhai Bush Walk
Access:
From Anzac Park on Cowper Street.
Features:
An easy loop walk through Kowhai Forest, half of which is bounded by the mudflats
of Blaketown Lagoon. Some parts are boardwalks, which follow through estuarine vegetation and unsuspecting
wildlife. Best at high tide.
Grand Jeans Creek Walk
Access:
Reached from Lydia Street or Perotti Park
Features:
An easy walk passing through an area of attractive native bush, ending at rest
area overlooking the picturesque Grand Jeans Creek.
Aorangi Nature Walk
Access:
Located off Marsden Road, 2km South of Greymouth in Aorangi Scenic Reserve. Look
for the small parking area and monument.
Features:
A short easy loop walk through mixed podocarp forest.
Gun Emplacement Walk
Access:
Off Richmond Street Cobden
Features:
A moderate walk with 152 steps leading to the concrete structure where a 5" U.S.
Naval Gun was housed, which provided a clear firing range of the Grey River mouth. Can be achieved
by most walkers, ample resting points provided.
Omotumotu Bush Walk
Access:
Starting from Marsden Road.
Walking Time:
45 minute loop walk, allow additional time to reach look out. (Starting from the
left of the track is the easiest option).
Features:
Omotumotu Bush is the most substantial forest area remaining within the urban
area of Greymouth, with views of regenerating forest from the lookout point.
King Domain Walk
Access:
Starting from Mount Street.
Walking Time:
1½ hours return
Features:
A zigzag uphill track to four lookouts. Many potholes, formed by fault action
on the limestone rock are present in the area so please do not stray off the track. Can be wet
underfoot.
Rotary Lookout
Access:
Turn right onto Milton Road from Nelson Street. Viewing platform at the start
of Stirling Drive.
Level:
Easy if driving to lookout or steep uphill walk
Features:
A stunning lookout over Greymouth towards township.
Floodwall Walk
Access:
From Mawhera Quay

Easy, well formed path
Features:
The Great Wall of Greymouth protects the town area from flooding by the Grey River.
A variety of walks, from 10 minutes stroll along the Mawhera Quay, to a round trip, taking in the
fishing breakwater and lagoon area.
